Omiava Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 27, 2026

Omiava ("the App") helps you organize your items, purchases, receipts, home filter replacements, and related information. We aim to minimize the information transmitted outside your device.

1. Information Stored on Your Device

Omiava stores information locally on your device, including item names and descriptions, purchase information and dates (including expiry, warranty-end and return dates), item and receipt photos, text extracted from receipts, barcodes and related product details, and other information you choose to save. Home filter records you create (property, filter size and type, install date and replacement schedule, reminder settings, and filter photos) are stored the same way, locally on your device. Omiava does not require you to create an account. Your saved records and images are not automatically uploaded to an Omiava cloud server.

Barcode lookup results may be cached on your device for up to 30 days to reduce repeated lookups.

2. Receipt Scanning and OCR

Omiava uses on-device optical character recognition (OCR) to extract text from receipt images. Receipt images and extracted text are processed locally on your device and are not uploaded to an Omiava server or any other server for OCR processing.

3. Barcode Lookup and Open Food Facts

When you choose to look up a product by scanning or entering its barcode, including when adding a barcode to a home filter record, Omiava sends only the barcode number to the Open Food Facts service over HTTPS, to retrieve available product information such as the product name and brand. The request also identifies the app (Omiava) and its version, as Open Food Facts asks apps to do. Omiava does not send your receipt photos, saved item records, account information, or any other personal details as part of the barcode lookup request.

As with any internet request, Open Food Facts' servers can see your device's IP address and ordinary request information. Open Food Facts is an independent French non-profit; its own privacy policy governs what it does with the request it receives. Its published policy states that visitor IP addresses and logs are retained for up to three years for security, technical analysis and popularity measurement; it does not separately specify a retention period for third-party API lookups. Learn more at Open Food Facts' privacy policy or contact them at privacy@openfoodfacts.org.

Barcode lookup is optional. To stop future barcode requests to Open Food Facts, stop using the lookup feature.

4. Analytics and Advertising

Omiava does not currently integrate advertising networks, third-party analytics SDKs, or user-tracking systems. We do not sell your saved item or receipt information to advertisers.

5. Permissions

Camera and photos: Omiava may request camera or photo access when you use features such as receipt capture, barcode scanning, or attaching item images. These permissions are used only to provide the features you request.

Notifications: Omiava may request notification permission for local expiry, warranty, return, and home filter replacement reminders. Reminders are scheduled on your device; no reminder data is sent to any server.

You can manage permissions through your device settings.

6. Backup and Export

Omiava allows you to export saved information as a JSON backup, optionally including your home filter records. Exported JSON files are not encrypted by Omiava. You are responsible for choosing where to save or share exported backups. We recommend keeping backup files in a secure location.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Your locally stored records remain on your device until you delete them or remove the App. You can delete individual items using Omiava. Uninstalling the App normally removes its locally stored application data, subject to operating-system backup and restoration behavior. Previously exported backup files are not automatically deleted when you delete records or uninstall Omiava.

8. Children's Privacy

Omiava is a general-purpose item and receipt organization application and is not specifically designed for children.

9. Security

Omiava uses HTTPS for barcode lookup requests and stores its application records locally. No software or storage method can guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if Omiava's features or data practices change. The updated policy will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
